Study the weather Tim

like feral said seabreeze is pretty good, swell can get nasty when the wind picks up and keep away from shallow ground and reef when the swell is up alot of people get in to trouble in these area's
Better off keeping in close until you understand the weather a bit better and know what your boat can handle
easterly winds are usualy calm in close but can get a bit rough out wide
even if your not out boating have a look on seabreeze and keep an eye on the weather and just understand how to read it will give a better understanding when to plan to go out boating

Hi Tim,If you live in the Northern Suburbs I suggest you join a designated sea sport club,Ocean Reef is very good and offers a wide interest group Hillary s are a bit expensive for the normal family type, but a very nice club and offer wide interest sections. Basically, join a club or group that can offer you support and advise, show you the ropes and pass on their members experience,go out with another, more experienced boat y .my view any way good luck in your boatingSmilejersey
