Depends what you mean by offshore. FFB, 3 mile maybe even Rotto on a good day for sure!!

I use to night fish im the sound in mine, that was about it. If the wind pick up out wide itll be a long ride home especially in the dark, i wouldnt do it personally!

 Hey mate. I've got a 2007 480 coast runner and I've had thing everywhere and done a lot in it. I've had mine out to the fads before and also fished the 3 mile for pinkies in 20knot southerlies. 20knot southerlies arnt comfy but took it slow and I was fine. For someone starting out boating tho I don't recommend either of those things at all. 1st of all get to know the boat in close to shore or in the river and get comfy in it and go from there. Slowly but surely you will get to know its capabilities. I think the main thing with a boat like that is just take it easy and go slow, and also don't be too brave with it, after all it is just a small run about. But fishing the 3 mile for an arvo pinky sesh or trolling behind the 3 mile for makies during the summer or chasing king George in close or squid, that boat will be perfect for. I also do the Rec cray season every year in mine and get it out every second day rough weather or not. The key is going slow.

These days I mostly fish the 3mile in the arvo's and anything under 1.5m swell and 15 knot winds is perfect and safe for me, sometimes a little bumpy tho. If I'm not doing that I'm fishing 20-30km's off of Cervantes or green head. And if I plan a trip up there and it's too bumpy to go fast then I just slow it down and troll some lures on my way to my spots, and occasionally doing that I'll pick up a tuna or Mackie (in summer) or even sambos in the shallower water. But also that gives you a nice clean sounder reading of the bottom and you find some small but good spots on the way to my usual fair weather grounds. 

They et are a great little boat and very capable in the right hands, and I doubt you will regret it! It's also the perfect size to launch off a secluded beach anywhere up north and get into some relatively in touched ground.

 That's great feed back Paul. I have a 2006 540 coastrunner and they are a very capable boat. But I agree you just need to pick the right conditions and you could head out 20-30 k's no probs like you say. Just use the sea breezes to your advantage Rob and take it slow and steady in a chop. 

 Hi Rob. Nothing wrong with the boat but with a boat that size a50hp motor is quite small.  Can be a bit of an issue in situations where there is more than 2 people in the boat a full tank of fuel and a big esky .  They can be underpowered and sluggish and hard to keep on the plane in rough conditions.  A 60hp or 70hp would be a lot better on a boat that size.  With 3 or more adults on board they can be hard to keep on the plane in average to rough conditions with a 50hp. They can get stuck in the holes in the easterly and sea breeze chop which is frustrating. This is speaking from experience being on a few boats of similar size with 50hp motors. It seemed to be a thing around that year putting 50hp motors on boats that size which should have had minimum 60hp.
