12kg Murray mully
Submitted by Timwoody86 on Fri, 2016-04-22 09:23
Gidday fishos been months since I've posted so I'll let ya in on a tip, the Murray is going off with good size mullys and saddleback black bream, Wednesday night went to a secret location with multiple bust offs on fish I'd estimate to over 15kg. We were lucky enough to land this fat healthy girl at 12kgs and full of roe. A couple quick snaps and she was released back into the mighty Murray. Bait - live poddy mullet. Weapons - small 6/0 60lb leader with a running sinker, pen950 50 lb braid matched with 15kg boat rod, heavy gear is needed to put the hand break on before they run ya into the snags,

Awesome fish mate!
When you say Murray, do you mean the river system in Yunderup?

I'd say...
...that's exactly where he means! Great catch, Tim...not many would expect mullas that size to be in there. Sometimes ya gotta think outside the box!

As Adam said a good 12.
How do you get a live Poddy mullet??
Cast net, set net (Wednesday) etc.
Was wondering whether those bread filled transparent tubes they use in the east to trap mullet would work in WA.

What a stonker of a mulla
That's a great catch, and more than that what a great release, a pity some of the drop kicks up at the ammo jetty didn't think the same.
To make a great catch like that and think enough of the future of our fishing to return her to the water is IMO the mark of a true fisherman.
Live poddy mullet, not many of them my side of the puddle at night when I'm looking for prawns you might see a couple at the edge of the light that's all.
Are you going to enter the picture in the POTM comp it's a worthy entry.
